The Wesley Senior Fellowship (WSF) had its early beginnings way back in 1954 and is now part of the Methodist Church’s TRAC Board of Seniors Ministry (TBSM) aka Glowing Years Ministry (GYM). The objectives of the Wesley Senior Fellowship are, among other things, to serve and care for the senior members of Wesley, uplift and strengthen the faith of these members and to do the work of evangelism. Ordinary membership is open to all Wesley members aged 55 years and above. Associate membership is open to all Wesleyans below the age of 55 years.
WSF achieves their objectives by organizing various activities which are specially tailored for seniors. The most popular is the regular monthly “Happy Hour”. This activity is held on the first Monday of each month and is attended by about 60-70 seniors of both genders. Attendees are not only from Wesley but from other churches as well. The programme is organized for seniors for fellowship and relaxation. It consists of a time of worship and devotion, a segment of singing of “evergreens” and “oldies”, and a lively time of line dancing, with light refreshments and fellowship at the end of the day. They also organize Talks on health and other topics which are of relevance to seniors.
The highlight of the year is the Annual Christmas Social and Dinner. This is always well attended to full capacity with a fun filled programme to end the year.
The Wesley Senior Fellowship has certainly shown that seniors can be active and useful members of the church.
“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.” ~ Psalms 92:12-15
